Summary
The image of the multinational monastic presence in the Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai from its foundation until today as reflected in its surviving manuscript remains is the reflection and depiction of the dominant political and spiritual ideology of the Byzantine Church and the Byzantine Empire. The peoples who have participated in this spiritual co-creation through their monks’ representatives over time become actors and transponders of one and the same cult and cultural tradition that is preserved throughout the Middle Ages. A living Serbian presence and active participation in the life and activities of the Monastery during this period (13th–14th centuries) is also recorded in the Slavic manuscripts found in 1975, which the above study wishes to highlight.
